Toxic Chemicals in Skin and Hair Care Products

It is important to be careful about the chemicals that are placed on the skin with skin care products and cosmetics. Many skin products and cosmetics have dangerous chemicals as a part of there components. Our skin is not a barrier to these chemicals it acts as a transporter for these chemicals and they can end up in our blood stream and from there to the rest of our body. These chemicals will add to the toxicity of the body and will potentially add to ill health or delay the healing process.

More than 500 ingredients are used to make cosmetics products. We are unsure of the safety for the majority of these chemicals. The most common reactions to the chemicals are eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. However, there is evidence that people who work with these chemicals (such as hairdressers and beauticians) suffer from the cumulative effects of the chemical. The studies concluded that:

\"skin Irritation\"

  • There is an increased risk of lung, uterine, ovarian, breast, digestive and respiratory cancer.

  • Of the 169 permanent hair dyes, 150 are mutagenic (cause changes to our cells genes).

  • The use of permanent and semi-permanent hair dyes is associated with increased risk of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, multiple myeloma, leukaemia and Hodgkin's disease.

The ingredients that you need to avoid include:

  • Foaming agents including sodium laureth sulphate (SLS), ammonium lauryl sulphate and 1,4-dioxane.

  • Artificial fragrances - many chemicals are able to gain access to our body via our olfactory system or sublingually (under the tongue). In the case of toothpaste a single fragrance can be made up of 200 chemicals which don't have to be labeled. Many fragrances are based on petroleum products and some reactions to these include dizziness, skin irritation and brown tinges to the skin. Products that are fragranced with essential oils are your safest choices.

  • Artificial colors. Things have improved since Queen Elizabeth 1 died from lead poisoning caused by her trademark white make up. However, there are still many questionable colorants. Synthetic colors are made up from coal tar containing heavy metal salts that deposit toxins into our systems.

  • Emulsifiers - these are used in just about all personal grooming products. They keep the texture uniform and stop the ingredients from separating. Eggs can be used for this but skin care companies prefer a more synthetic version. Glyceryl monostearate and stearic acid are two commonly used emulsifiers and oral care products that are known to cause side effects - in particular skin irritations. Another commonly used emulsifier is triethanolamine, a substance that is converted in living tissue into nitrosamines - some of the strongest carcinogens known. Triethanolamine causes skin irritation problems. Ethoxylates is another commonly used emulsifier which is a strongly mutagenic. It damages the DNA which increases skin aging and the risk of developing skin cancers.

  • Preservatives - These are used to slow the rate at which the products decay and therefore increase the products shelf life. Some of these that need to be avoided are:

  • Imidazolidinyl urea - formaldehyde. This is known to cause dermatitis, skin irritation, nerve damage and cancers.

  • Parabens - over 90% of cosmetics contain a preservative from the parabens family. Some of the latest research suggests that these may work as endocrine disruptors. These chemical play a role in increasing the rate of breast cancer and decreasing rates of male fertility.

  • Carrying agents - this is the ingredient that provides all the other ingredients a means to be suspended. Water is the most common carrying agent and some are derived from vegetable glycerine or seaweed. However, it is usually a petroleum derivative.

  • Porpylene glycol is commonly used and there are general warnings about it when it is in contact with the skin. It can cause brain, liver and kidney problems. Yet this is the agent that is commonly used in stick deodorants, toothpaste and most other personal care items!

  • Other ingredients to watch out for are PVP/VA copolymer, stearalkonium chloride, petrolatum and paraffin.

Skin and hair care products are used in an attempt to enhance our appearance or preserve our skin - however this is not what many of the product that are commercially available actually do. Many are far from safe and add to the toxic burden of the body. If you have been using unsafe skin and hair care products (and anybody who uses the usual commercially available products will have) then you need to detoxify your body to remove these toxic chemicals and limit the damage that they can cause.

How to Find a Good Hair Moisturizer For Relaxed and Natural Black Hair

Moisturizing hair is as important as deep conditioning to any black person who wishes to have long hair. As washing and deep conditioning the hair every day is quite impractical, a hair moisturizer is required to avoid dryness until the next wash.

Relaxed and natural black hair tends to be quite porous so loses moisture quickly. The key to long beautiful locks is to keep replacing the moisture lost. The easiest way to do this between washes is to use a good moisturizer.

Moisturizer

First things first, let's deal with a common misconception about oil. Oil is not a moisturizer! Oil lubricates the hair and 'seals in' any moisture you already have in the hair. If your hair is dry and brittle and you apply oil to it then you are doing your hair more harm than good. The oil will coat the hair and prevent any further moisture from entering the hair which will lead to breakage.

The best moisturizers should always be water based i.e. the first ingredient should be water; water is in fact the best moisturizer! Good moisturizers should also contain humectants. These are ingredients which attract water from the atmosphere, glycerine being the most popular of these. Honey is also an excellent humectant but more commonly used in conditioners and not moisturizers.

Always avoid moisturizers that contain mineral oil or any other petroleum based product in the first few ingredients. Mineral oil does nothing but coat the hair leaving it shiny but dry.

You may find that the best conditioners are the ones that are marketed to 'wet type' styles (jheri curl or wave nouveau) as they contain mainly water and glycerine. S curl is particularly good.

How to use hair moisturizers is just as important as getting the right product. If you plan to blow dry or roller set your hair, after towel drying apply a dime sized amount of a water and glycerine based moisturizer before you apply the same amount of heat protectant and comb through hair to evenly distribute. After the blow dry or roller set your hair will be left soft and silky to the touch and will remain like this throughout the day. If you plan to flat iron it then only apply leave in conditioner and a silicone based heat protectant to the hair.

Moisturizers should then be applied daily or as needed. Only a dime sized amount is required for shoulder length hair. A touch more for longer hair. Always comb the moisturiser through the length of the hair with a wide tooth comb to make sure that every strand gets its share. You can apply a bit more to the ends if desired. There is no benefit in loading your hair with moisturizer as hair is only about 10-14% water and all you are trying to do is regain the moisture balance in your hair. You are more likely to ruin your style by leaving relaxed hair looking greasy or reverting natural hair altogether by applying too much moisturizer! When you use a moisturizer well, it should keep your hair from drying out without weighing the hair down or being sticky.

Oil free moisturizers are also good option. They contain silicones that help 'seal' the moisture into the hair but their first ingredient must also be water and hair should be washed every 3rd day to prevent build-up. Some good examples of natural oil that can be used to seal in moisture after a wash are coconut oil, avocado butter, mango butter or Shea butter. Remember that these are oils and will just lock in whatever moisture you already have in your hair. It is advisable to dampen the hair slightly before applying any hair oil to it.

The Best Shampoo For Dandruff

Dandruff can cause flakes, itchy scalp and inflammation. The best shampoo for dandruff addresses the underlying causes of dandruff while deep cleaning flakes, dirt and oil, and soothing inflammation.

Primary Causes

\"dry Scalp\"

Dandruff may result from a variety of factors - excessive oil production on the scalp, bacteria or fungus, allergic reaction to shampoos and conditioners, or inflammation. As a hair products manufacturer, we receive calls and emails daily from customers who have found they have mild or severe cases of flaking and itching and are looking for a solution. Using a shampoo formulated for dandruff works best - both to stop itching and flakes and to reduce excess sebum from sebaceous glands.

For many of us dandruff begins with an oily scalp. Excessive scalp and hair oil is produced that clogs follicle pores, traps dirt, and inflames scalp tissue. As irritation worsens, flakes form. Generally white or yellow-ish, flaking can become severe if oil is not reduced. The best shampoo for dandruff controls oils while "clarifying" and irrigating pores of dirt and bacteria.

  • Excess Scalp Oil Production
  • Dirt and Grease
  • Product Build-Up
  • Bacteria and Fungus

As an important note, severe dryness can also cause scalp itch and flakes. Though this is a rare occurrence, it produces dandruff-like symptoms and requires a moisturizing shampoo for treatment. Using Emu Oil, Jojoba Oil, or Moroccan Oil as topical applications will reduce dryness while an Emu shampoo will provide daily relief and add moisture to the scalp and hair.

What to look for in the best shampoo

Zinc PCA is one of the most effective active ingredients used in shampoos for dandruff. Zinc PCA is a naturally-derived compound used extensively (and proven) to regulate oil production from sebaceous glands. Sebaceous glands are associated with follicle pores and produce sebum. Sebum protects the follicle shaft, adds moisture, and helps infuse nutrients.

Zinc PCA helps control over-active glands and reduces sebum. For most, this dramatically reduces itching and flaking.

We also recommend shampoos that are paraben-free and contain botanical extracts. Many inexpensive shampoos are harsh and use surfactants (the foaming action) to clean. While cleaning is good, the result can often be scalp irritation or slight allergic reactions...just enough to get the dandruff "engine" started.

Botanical extracts such as Sage, Ivy Burdock, or Thyme have been shown to work very well at cleaning while soothing irritation and reducing inflammation. They reduce itchiness, clean product build-up from styling aids, and work well for dandruff control.

The best dandruff shampoo addresses the primary causes of flaking and irritation and leaves your hair and scalp clean and refreshed.

Best Face Moisturizer Cream - 5 Tips You MUST Know to Find the Best Face Moisturizer

Are you looking to find the best face moisturizer cream?  This article will give you 5 helpful tips for finding it so you can help keep your skin healthy and youthful for years to come.

TIP #1. The best face moisturizer cream is made with all natural and organic ingredients.

Moisturizer

Trust me, there's nothing worse for your skin than synthetic ingredients, many of which are just byproducts from other industries sold at dirt cheap prices.  Sure, they probably serve some good purpose in a skin care product, but the other side effects that come with using them usually outweigh the positives.

The best substances for your skin are by far all-natural and organic ones.  They are the ones that provide the most benefits to your skin and they rarely cause any negative side effects.  Sure they may boost the price of the product a bit, but the results you get from using them are well worth it.

TIP #2. You probably won't find the best face moisturizer cream at your local drug store or pharmacy.

These are the places that usually stock the cheap products made with cheap synthetic ingredients.  So not only are they severely limiting your choices of products to pick from, they are also only letting you choose from the worst ones!

You're much better off looking for the best face moisturizer cream on the Internet.  This way, you can learn a lot more about a product before buying it, you can purchase products made on the other side of the world, and you can easily compare different ones to make a more educated decision.

TIP #3. Don't let the brand name of a product fool you.

Just because a popular and well-known company makes a product doesn't mean that it's any good.  Most times, a company is only popular and well-known because they spend BIG BUCKS marketing and advertising their brand.  The only way to REALLY tell if a product will be effective is looking at it's ingredient list.

TIP #4. The best face moisturizer cream will also contain ingredients that are very similar and easily-accepted by your skin and it's natural oils.

The more identical the ingredients in a face moisturizer cream are to your skin and it's natural oils, the better results you'll most likely get using it.  The easier accepted ingredients are, the more benefits they can give to your skin.

For example, jojoba oil is a moisturizer that's very similar to your natural sebum (oils).  This very trait makes it a great skin care ingredient because it helps to regulate your sebum levels to make sure you don't produce too less or too little of it.

TIP #5. The best face moisturizer cream will seal in moisture and hydration throughout the day.

After hydrating and moisturizing your skin, it's important to seal in this moisture throughout the whole day.  For most people, the effects of a moisturizer are only experienced for a few hours before the skin starts to dry out again.  All natural ingredients like grapeseed oil and babassu wax actually create an invisible barrier over your skin to help trap in this moisture.  And it does so without clogging your pores.

What you do and do not ingest affects the overall health of your body. This fact definitely includes the largest organ of the body which is the skin.

Why You Are to Blame for Your Extremely Dry Skin

\"dry Face\"

I know it is extremely difficult to deal with extremely dry skin. Not only will it cause your skin to look brittle and scaly, it is in fact the perfect condition for skin irritation and inflammation. I will even add to your burden by saying that you are very possibly the cause of this problem. It is indeed easier to blame it on factors other than yourself. However, if you want to know how to cure super dry face skin, you should make this crucial realization.

Now, why do you think did I have the gall to say that you are possibly the source of the problem? Simply because skin dryness is usually the result of one's lifestyle. Dryness of the skin is caused by over-exposure to UV rays, poor diet, caffeine and alcohol ingestion, and deficient water intake. Heredity is also a likely cause of skin dryness but since you cannot do anything about it, we will not delve on it.

Over-exposure to UV rays, poor diet, caffeine and alcohol ingestion, and deficient water intake are surely a result of deliberate personal choices. These factors can be controlled and can be eliminated with effort and practice.

Exposure to UV rays is not just brought about by exposure to sunlight. The other major UV ray emitter is the tanning machine that most ladies are so fond of. I am not saying that you should avoid UV rays exposure at all cost. In fact, you actually need to expose yourself to a certain extent (early morning sunrays) to benefit your body with Vitamin D. However, you just have to be careful not to overdo it, otherwise, your skin will dry up like a prune sooner or later.

You also need to eat more fruits, green leafy vegetables, nuts and milk. These are the foods that are rich in Vitamins A, B, and E. If your body does not get the proper amount of these vitamins, dryness of the skin is the inevitable result.

You know that alcohol and caffeine is bad for you. You need no more reminder of this fact. What you do not know is, they can are the likely causes of the extreme dryness on your skin.

Not drinking enough water will cause dehydration to your body, the first to suffer the signs of dehydration is your skin. Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day to provide your body the hydration it needs.
If you are really serious on how to cure super dry face skin, you need to do something the above causes of skin dryness. Avoid what should be avoided and do what should be done.

What Else Can You Do

Taking care of the likely causes of skin dryness is your first step. The next thing that you need to do is to actually help your skin moisturize itself. This can be done by introducing natural ingredients that will stimulate and improve your skins moisture retention capacity. These ingredients are Cynergy TK, Coenzyme Q10, Phytessence Wakame and Manuka Honey. Look for these ingredients when you are choosing the facial skin care products for your dry skin.

What's the Best Facial Moisturizer For Sensitive Skin?

If it's the best facial moisturizer for sensitive skin that you're looking for, then you need to make sure that the product you get is designed a specific way.  This article explains what it is you should look for in the best facial moisturizer for sensitive skin.

If you have sensitive skin, then I'm sure you're aware of how easily your skin can negatively react with certain ingredients and substances.

Moisturizer

Unless you are allergic to a specific ingredient, it's safe to say that it's a synthetic ingredient in a product that's causing the negative reaction.  This is the first problem with most moisturizers and skin care products.

If you've purchased cheap skin care products before at your local drug store, then you've probably run across some of these substances.

One of the worst synthetic substances in skin care products is mineral oil (also called liquid paraffin, paraffin wax, or petrolatum).  They are all petroleum byproducts but they are used in many cheap skin care products to coat the skin to keep in moisture.  But what they really do is clog your pores, interfere with the natural release of toxins, strip the natural oils from your skin, cause chappness and dryness, promote acne flareups, and even cause premature aging.

Even a certain fragrance can irritate sensitive skin.  This term can refer to up to 4,000 different substances, many of which are toxic or carcinogenic.

The best facial moisturizer for sensitive skin is made with all-natural and organic ingredients.  Because they are very similar to your natural oils and are accepted very well by your skin, they rarely irritate the skin.

You'll also find ingredients that help reduce and prevent inflammation and redness in the best facial moisturizer for sensitive skin.  Ingredients like CynergyTK™ actually stop PGE2 production, which is the major biochemical pathway of inflammation and redness.

Having skin that is very sensitive means that you need to keep it hydrated throughout the day.  Along with deeply-penetrating moisturizers, you'll also want to make sure the moisturizer you get contains ingredients that seal in this moisture through the entire day.  Grapeseed oil and babassu wax are both good examples of ingredients that do this.

Remedies for Dry and Peeling Skin

Dry, cracked, peeling, bleeding skin can be extremely painful. Every time you put your dry skin into water it can be an excruciating experience. Clothing chafes, cold air stings, sweat burns; it is just a miserable experience to have raw and peeling skin. In addition to this, cracked and peeling skin is very difficult to cure.

The number one cause of dry and peeling skin is sun damage. Other causes can include environmental factors such as extreme weather, harsh working conditions, and cold air. Your dry skin may even be caused by a medical condition such as hypothyroidism, diabetes, Hodgkin's disease, and numerous types of skin conditions including eczema and psoriasis.

\"skin Dry\"

For the purpose of this article, we will assume that any underlying health conditions are being treated as part of the healing process. If you have not sought medical condition for a particularly troublesome dry skin issue, do so. Your skin condition could be caused by an underlying disease or disorder that needs medical treatment.

Remedies for Sunburned Dry Skin

The number one cause of aging and dry skin is the sun. Despite this grim fact, millions of people fail to protect their skin and suffer sunburn year after year. Sunburn not only causes dry and peeling skin, it also causes wrinkles, sun spots, and skin discolorations. This is why it is so important to protect your skin from the sun each an every time you go outdoors. If you forgot and are now fighting sunburn, here are some remedies for your plight:

* Cold compresses - At the first sign of discomfort, begin applying cold compresses to your burnt and dry skin. Apply cold therapy for 15 minute intervals taking 15 minute breaks in between.

* Vinegar - vinegar is a good home remedy for sunburns. Many people who use it claim that it takes the sting out of the burn.

* Cool shower - Be sure to take plenty of cool showers. Use an exfoliating sponge to remove dead skin cells. This will help prevent the appearance of peeling.

* Aloe Vera - Aloe Vera is great for healing sunburns. Apply Aloe Vera to clean dry skin frequently until all evidence of the burn is gone.

Remedies for Dry Skin Conditions

Many cases of dry cracked skin are caused by skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis. In severe cases, these skin disorders require prescription medications, but there are some things that you can do to soothe your irritated skin:

* Avoid excess sweat - Excess sweat can irritate these skin disorders and make dry skin more prevalent. Strive to stay cool on hot days. If you are active, take plenty of showers to remove sweat from your skin.

* Wear light clothing - Wearing cool clothing made with light materials can help reduce eczema flare ups and the dry skin associated with them. You should also avoid wearing scratchy materials such as wool. The more you scratch your skin, the more irritated and cracked it will get.

Intense Treatments for Dry Skin

In especially tough cases of peeling and cracked skin, it may be necessary for you to apply several intense treatments to the affected area throughout the day. These treatments include emollients and salves that are specifically formulated to sooth and heal cracked and peeling skin. Here are a few more ideas to sooth your dry skin:

* Paraffin wax - Heated paraffin wax can do wonders for cracked dry skin on your hands and feet. The heat associated with the treatment is also ideal for people who suffer from arthritis and joint pain.

* Silicone creams - If your dry skin is caused from frequent hand washing or harsh work conditions, a cream that contains silicone might be your best bet. The silicone is water resistant and forms a barrier between your skin and the elements.

The key to curing cracked, dry skin is consistency. Be sure to use all treatments regularly and do all you can do to avoid conditions that will make your skin worse. Never tug and pull on loose skin as this can cause more irritation and damage to deeper skin tissues. Instead, allow your skin to peel naturally or use an exfoliating sponge.

Never apply scented lotions to the affected areas as these can cause burning and stinging. You should also keep all cracked skin clean to avoid infection. If you suspect that an infection has set in or your condition gets worse, see a doctor immediately. You may need a prescription to heal your dry peeling skin.

Choosing The Best Soap For Your Dry Skin

Not only is dry skin a nuisance to deal with, it is uncomfortable. It is tight, itchy and painful. Sometimes, it can even crack and bleed leaving the way for infection to set in. You see, skin care is not always just about looking good, it is about staying healthy. If you fail to take care of your skin, you may set yourself up for a host of diseases and complications. After all, your skin is the largest organ of your body. It is responsible for numerous bodily functions that all work together to keep you healthy. This is why you should always strive to take care of your skin the best that you can.

Skin care should be a part of your daily routine no matter if you have dry skin or not. Having a good skin care regimen will prevent your skin from drying out in the first place. And since prevention is worth a pound of cure, it is in your best interest to start a routine if you don't currently have one. If you do have a routine, you may need to adjust it just a bit to achieve the best results.

\"skin Dry\"

To understand how to take care of your dry skin, you first need to understand how your skin remains moist and healthy. Skin tissue is moisturized from the inside out, meaning that your body produces the moisture that is encased in the layers of your skin. It is not absorbed by the skin. While moisture is not absorbed into the layers of your skin, it can be evaporated from your skin by the sun, hot water, extreme temperatures, and other external factors.

To help hold moisture in, your hair follicles produce oil which is called sebum. This oil wells up in the hair follicles until it spills over creating a layer of sebum on the skin. It is this layer of sebum which is responsible for protecting your skin from the elements and holding in moisture. Most cases of dry skin are caused by some sort of failure in this system. In some cases, the body just does not produce enough oil to keep skin moist due to genetics or a medical condition. In other cases, the oil may be removed through excessive bathing.

Bathing and Dry Skin

The one thing that you do that can really zap moisture from your skin is bathing. Not only do you remove sebum from your skin with soap while bathing, you also dehydrate your skin with hot water. Here are just a few ways that bathing causes dry skin and how to correct them:

* Length of shower - You would think that water would cause your skin to become moist, right? Wrong! Water that is absorbed into your skin during a shower only goes into the first layers of the skin resulting in a wrinkly, water logged appearance. This water is immediately evaporated once you leave the bath. In fact, a long shower or bath may even dry skin out.

* Water temperature - Hot water does a great deal when it comes to removing moisture from your skin. Be sure to use lukewarm or tepid water for your shower or bath.

* Soap - Harsh soaps can remove all of the oils from the surface of your skin resulting in dry, unprotected skin. Be sure to use a gentle soap that does not remove all surface oils. You may even want to use a moisturizing soap that will replace some of the oils removed from your skin through bathing.

* After shower - If you roughly dry your skin after you bathe, you may further dry it out. Gently pat skin dry and apply a moisturizer.

Soap for Your Dry Skin

You need to be careful when choosing the right soap for your dry skin. Not only does the soap need to be gentle and full of moisturizers, it should also be lightly fragrant. This is because heavy fragrances can irritate skin that is already raw from itching and scratching. Certain fragrances may even cause an allergic reaction which will only cause your dry skin to become worse.

When looking to purchase body soap for your dry skin, look for pure, gentle cleansing products that contain a lot of moisturizers. Be sure to read the ingredient label. Avoid products that have high alcohol content. Remember; product ingredients are listed according to how much ingredient is in each product. The ingredients listed first are the most abundant. Make sure that these are moisturizers.

How To Make An Organic Moisturizer

Organic Skin Care must include moisturizers. Although it is handy to purchase these in a ready to use form, you may want to try some of the following homemade moisturizers for a luxurious change on occasion.

You will find that they leave your skin feeling like a million bucks. If cost is a concern, check prices online before choosing a certain recipe. Keep in mind that the more essential oil that the recipe calls for, the more expensive it is to make. In places that the essential oil is more for light fragrance than for necessity to the recipe, it is marked as 'optional.' Any essential oils marked this way can be omitted or changed to a scent that you prefer. For those not marked optional, you need them for the recipe to work like it should.

Moisturizer

By packaging the moisturizers in small Mason jars, you leave yourself open to decorate and give as gifts in a pinch. Place a bit of colorful fabric over the flat lid to the jar, screw the ring on, wrap a color coordinated ribbon around the ring and add a personal tag and you have a ready to give, organic skin care gift from the heart. Just be sure that you are willing to share the recipe or they may drive you crazy wanting more!

Quick and Simple Moisturizer:

Jojoba Oil is great for any skin type and absorbs easily. Apply a small amount to your freshly cleaned face before you dry it. The water on your face is very important to the use of this oil as a moisturizer. For added enjoyment, mix a drop of your favorite organic essential oil to the jojoba just before application. For anti-aging help, use one teaspoon of jojoba and a dab of active royal jelly (found in refrigerated in health food stores); keep your royal jelly refrigerated or it becomes inactive and no good to you.

Anti-aging Dry Skin Moisturizer

4 ounces shea butter

2 ounces organic olive oil

2 teaspoons organic vitamin E oil, 5000 IU

1 teaspoon active royal jelly (refrigerated section of health food stores)

6 drops organic lavender essential oil

Mix all ingredients on high until smooth and creamy. Store refrigerated in an airtight container. It is necessary to make small amounts of this at a time and keep refrigerated because of the active royal jelly. This is an awesome ingredient for its healing properties and well worth the effort.

Super Simple Moisturizer

With only 2 necessary ingredients, this one is a breeze. Mix 1/4 cup pure aloe vera gel (directly from plant) and 2 tablespoons organic vegetable glycerin. This amount is for use over the entire body. Use immediately because aloe vera gel begins to lose potency immediately. For added effects, you can add 3 or 4 drops of your favorite essential oil or you can add 1/2 teaspoon of active royal jelly for anti aging effects. Active royal jelly must be kept refrigerated to remain active and can be found in refrigerated sections of health food stores.

Dry Skin Moisturizing Cream

This moisturizer has the healing qualities of aloe vera, the anti-oxidant qualities of Vitamin E, and a variety of oils specifically chosen to infuse dry, tired skin with moisture and a renewed radiance.

1/3 cup aloe vera gel (taken directly from plant)

1/4 cup beeswax (liquefied)

1/3 cup coconut oil

3 drops grape seed extract

6 drops of organic lavender essential oil (optional)

3/4 cup organic olive oil

1/4 tsp vitamin E (5000 IU)

2/3 cup water (distilled)

Combine olive oil, coconut oil, and beeswax and melt in a large, microwave safe bowl then pour in blender and let cool until it is about as thick as a milkshake.

While the above is cooling, combine your water, aloe, essential oil, vitamin E, and grape seed extract in a large liquid measuring cup, pour this into blender when the other mixture has cooled enough. Blend until smooth and creamy.

If you are lucky enough to have a heavy duty kitchen mixer (the kind that is on its own stand with its own bowls), you may find that it works better for you because the mixture does become very heavy.
Store refrigerated in small Mason jars.

How to Treat Itchy Scalp - Hair Steamer Dandruff Treatment

A hair steamer is probably the most logical treatment for dandruff and other scalp and damaged hair conditions. Not only are hair steamers used by hairdressers to apply special conditions and intense hair treatments more effectively they are great for removing dirt from the scalp and bringing moisture to the root and follicles.

It is amazing for an itchy scalp as it will remove dirt and get rid of any left over shampoo that is stuck in the scalp which is actually one of the biggest reasons for dandruff development and frustration.

\"dry Scalp\"

I have found hair steamers not that readily available and it may require a bit of shopping online otherwise you could always get it done at a local hairdresser next time you get a cut. If you don't have access to a hair steamer having a hot steamy bath can help otherwise you can simply fill a bowl with hot water and put a towel around you so you can soak it up.

Depending on how damaged or dry your scalp is the time spent under the steamer will be around 10 to 15 minutes or even up to 1 hour for especially dry hair or if your applying a special intense moisturizing treatment. It's a good idea to apply some sort of essential oil to help penetrate your dry scalp further and bring nutrients to your hair roots.

When using your hair steamer for fighting dandruff remember to allow your scalp to reap the benefits of the natural water steam and not cover your scalp with a shower cap or steam cap. The steam cap is a very common mistake and for some reason people believe it locks in heat, this may be true but its going to be dry heat if your not getting that steam and to get maximum benefit always expose your hair and scalp to the steam.

Treating a Scalp Rash - What Causes Itchy Scalp Problems

Whether you have a scalp rash or your scalp is very itchy , it can be frustrating and make you self-conscious. First of all, it's important to see what the features are of the itchy scalp problem. Does it itch but have no rash? Are the red spots near your ears predominately? Do you have itching on other parts of your body or is it just on your scalp? Are you experiencing hair loss? Is your whole body skin area dry and do you experience dandruff and skin flaking?

There are several conditions that can cause a scalp rash, dry scalp itching, scalp flaking or hair loss. Let's review a few:

\"dry Scalp\"

1) Ringworm: Ringworm of the scalp or tinea captis is a fungal skin infection. It needs to be treated as it can spread and it can cause hair loss that does not grow back. It can be crusty and scaly in patches. The patches can be circular and have raised edges. If the problem is severe oral medication. However, often for typical cases a shampoo that contains selenium sulfide or zinc pyrithione is prescribed., Depending on the extent of the ringworm, the physician may recommend an over the counter anti-fungal for the scalp.

2) Head Lice: Lice can spread easily around schools and many schools will send out a notification if a child in the class or school has been diagnosed with head lice. There are one percent creams available that contain permethrin. This is used to treat and control the problem. The insects don't have wings. The nits (or eggs) can often be seen in the ear area or neck below hair.

3) Eczema: This is also called seborrhoeic dermatitis. Some attribute this to yeast growth. If you notice additional patches on your elbows and needs you may have psoriasis. These can be a darker color. Dandruff is a form of seborrhoeic dermatitis. A scalp problem due to seborrhoeic dermatitis can afflict teens going through the hormonal changes just as the t-zone on the skin can get more oily and develop acne issues.

Determining the cause of the scalp rash is the best way to figure out treatment. Try to avoid scratching the head to prevent exacerbating the problem or causing any bacterial infections.

Dry Patchy Skin

It's hard not to get worried when you realize one day that you have patches of dry skin on your body. It can be disfiguring and distressing, especially if the patches appear on exposed parts of your body, such as your arms and face. For the most part, dry patchy skin is often only temporary and responds well to home treatment measures. This article will illustrate the more common causes of dry patchy skin, as well as how to avoid or treat them.

1. Ichthyosis

\"skin Dry\"

Ichthyosis literally means "fish skin", and is also known as "fish-scale disease" or "fish-skin disease." Ichthyosis is marked by scaly patches of dry skin that may occur anywhere in the body. The scaly patches vaguely resemble the scales of a fish. There is currently no way to avoid ichthyosis, but application of moisturizers can help improve the skin's condition.

2. Atopic Dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis is often called "eczema," and is the most common type of dermatitis. It is hereditary and runs in many families. The skin is unusually sensitive to irritants and allergens in food and the environment, presenting red, flaky dry skin. Atopic dermatitis occurs more commonly in infants, where it often attacks the cheeks. As with ichthyosis, moisturizers can help alleviate the symptoms, and over-the-counter steroid creams are also helpful. Avoiding known allergens is also a good idea.

3. Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a skin condition marked by a rapid growth of skin. Skin cells usually take 28 days to move from the hypodermis (the lowest portion of the skin) to the epidermis (the surface of the skin), where they die. With psoriasis, this cycle is compressed into a mere few days, resulting in large amounts of dry patchy skin which flake off. Psoriasis is often treatable by daily lukewarm baths or showers, mild soaps and cleansers, and moisturizers.

4. Neurodermatitis

Neurodermatitis is a type of dermatitis that is aggravated by scratching. Sometimes the skin becomes so dry and itchy that you scratch it on impulse. The scratching makes the dry skin worse, making it thicker and even itchier, until it develops an itchy patch of dry skin. Neurodermatitis often cannot heal unless you keep yourself from scratching, and this can be done by putting a bandage over the affected area. Moisturizers can also help soothe the itch.

5. Nummular Eczema

Nummular eczema is a type of rash that causes coin-shaped patches on the skin. While its cause is unknown, it has been found to be associated with dry skin and the winter months. Its condition has been found to improve with faithful application of moisturizers and prescription strength cortisone creams. Avoidance of wool clothing and not using fabric softeners in the laundry can also help ease the symptoms. It is often best to have the nummular eczema checked by your doctor in order to arrive at a more specific, effective treatment.

6. Seborrheic Eczema

Seborrheic eczema is better known as that annoying scalp problem, "dandruff." While the patches of dry skin appear most often on the scalp, they can also occur on the eyebrows, the face, in the armpits, the genitals, and around the navel; anywhere the oil glands are more concentrated. It is usually caused by oily skin, stress, infrequent shampooing, and use of cleansers with alcohol. Dandruff can be treated with the usual dandruff shampoos-leave the shampoo on your hair for five minutes to ensure the medication reaches the scalp. More serious cases of seborrheic eczema often merit a visit to the doctor.

Other causes include overexfoliating, overuse of Retin-A, and the use of moisturizers that contain alcohol. Overexfoliating can take its toll on your skin by drying it too thoroughly. Retin-A also tends to dry out the skin, and while it can benefit the skin with mild, controlled use, it can shrivel the skin and cause wrinkles when used too much. Alcohol also has a drying effect on the skin.

Treatments include drinking enough water to keep the skin hydrated (8 glasses a day is enough), resisting the urge to pick, scratch, or peel at the dry patchy skin (it can open fissures in the skin, inviting infection), and avoiding any skin products that contain alcohol.

The rule of thumb is to see the doctor when the dry patchy skin occurs suddenly and without warning. It may be a sign of a more serious skin condition. Also, see your doctor when the dry patchy skin fails to respond to home treatment. Your doctor may authorize a biopsy (taking a small piece of your skin and examining it under a microscope) to determine the exact cause of your affliction.

Moisturizer With Antioxidants - Discover Which Ones Are Worth Using

If you are looking for a moisturizer with antioxidants, it's best that you know a few things before making a purchase decision. Because let's face it, no one enjoys spending their hard-earned money on a worthless product, right?

You may think that getting a moisturizer with antioxidants is fairly easy, but it's really not as easy as you'd think if you're ultimately looking for one of high quality. There are many cheap products available today at your local drug store or department store that are moisturizers with antioxidants, but they have a few faults.

Moisturizer

First of all, these options probably contain harsh synthetic chemicals and byproducts that are used as substitutes for more effective (and expensive) ingredients. Plus, they probably contain minimal amounts of antioxidants or ones that are not that effective at protecting the skin. These kind of products end up being solely moisturizers AT BEST.

Instead, you want to look for a moisturizer with antioxidants that is made using all-natural and organic ingredients. This will ensure that the product is completely safe and harmless. Plus, all-natural ingredients always come with multiple health-giving benefits.

You'll also want to make sure that the antioxidants used in a product are molecularly small enough to penetrate not just through the epidermis, but also deep down through multiple layers of your skin to effectively prevent free radical damage throughout the skin.

Here are some specific ingredients to look for in an effective moisturizer with antioxidants:

*Shea Butter is a natural moisturizer that softens the skin and soothes inflamed skin, and even smooths out wrinkles and stretch marks. Since it's so identical to the oils produced by the sebaceous glands of your skin, it's accepted very easily and quickly. And it's large 'healing fraction' helps treat various skin conditions from wrinkles to blemishes to even more serious conditions like eczema.

*Grapeseed Oil is a powerful antioxidant that creates an invisible barrier around your skin to help retain moisture throughout the day. It's very effective at repairing the thin skin around your eyes and it also contain linoleic acid and several other essential oils necessary for skin health.

*CoenzymeQ10 is a natural antioxidant produced by your skin cells. It's actually one of the most potent antioxidant produced by the body, but it's also one of the first to be depleted. A moisturizer with antioxidants should contain this ingredient to help restore the natural antioxidant levels that your body is normally use to.

Skin Care For All Over Youth and Radiance

While skin care is a body wide process, the most important part of your body to protect is your face. Your face is how you present your image to the world. Taking care of it is as important to your health as jogging or proper diet. Make sure to remember these basic facts.

First, how you protect and cleanse your skin depends on what type you have. You may fall into these five categories. Oily has large pores that produce oils. You may be prone to blackheads and acne blemishes if you have this type. Always wash your face vigorously if you have oily skin and dry it completely. You will still need to moisturize but do not over do it.

\"skin Dry\"

Dry skin will flake and/or be ashy. It will often feel stretched and tight, especially after washing your face. It is important to pat your body dry rather than wiping dry with a towel. This will help it retain the moisture it needs. Take baths instead of showers and follow up that bath with a rinse from the shower to wash away any dirt from the bath water.

Normal or combination-skin has a healthier color and medium sized pores. This is the easiest type to care for, as it will need less attention and scrubbing than oily-skin and less moisturizing than dry. Take care of your body and you will glow and shine radiantly for your lifetime.

Combination oily dry skin will be shiny, oily on the forehead and around the cheekbones, dry around the jaw line, and possibly leathery in places. You can treat these different areas of your face successfully with a little extra care and patience.

Sensitive skin will needs lots of love and a firm regimen of care. It easily flushes and you have fine, delicate pores with the possibility of broken capillaries and areas of rash. A sunscreen should be applied diligently: you cannot be lax when caring for sensitive skin.

Remember these four steps of skin care and you are sure to shine no matter what type you have. Always start with a thorough cleansing. A clean body will also accept moisturizers better than if it were dirty with clogged pores. Exfoliate daily after cleansing to remove dead skin and open pores. Use a scrub that has fine grains as big clumpy grains can do more damage than good. Moisturize after you open those pores with a good, brand name product. Remember, not too much or not too little. Moisturizing is for the whole body so go crazy. Finally, always remember to apply sunscreen. A moisturizer that has sunscreen can be used during the day but never at night. Take care of your skin and it will shine your whole life through.

Skin Care For All Over Youth and Radiance

With the importance of the skin being so vital to the health of the human body, it is imperative that we take care of it. Whether you're looking for African American skin care or skin care equipment, you'll find lots of useful, free information on our website.

The Best Anti Aging Face Cream

With so many products to choose from today, it's hard to decide what the best anti aging face cream is. There's no correct answer of course: everyone's face is different and one product won't suit everybody. Good products, however, will have certain features in common.

When you are searching for the best consumer anti aging face care, look for products that protect your skin from the sun: we know that sunlight does damage to skin and causes wrinkles and other signs of aging. Your face is consistently exposed to more sunlight than any other part of your body, and this is why some moisturizing facial creams now contain sun protection ingredients. Applying one of these products to your face daily, before applying makeup, will give you daily protection. While the best anti aging face cream should include sun protection, if you choose one that doesn't, consider adding a skin lotion with a sun protection factor (SPF) rating of at least 15 to your daily skin care routine.

Moisturizer

Other than sun protection, the best anti aging face cream will be what is sometimes called a "cosmeceutical," a cosmetic product that does more than just make your skin look younger - it actually induces healing or other changes in the skin cells. Active ingredients include vitamins, especially vitamins A, C, D, and E; minerals, especially selenium and zinc; lycopene (found in tomatoes and other fruit) and other antioxidants; herbal extracts; and compounds that lighten skin tone. Many of the best consumer anti aging face care brands include some or all of these things.

The product that will be the best anti aging face cream for you will depend on your specific needs. If you are not noticing the effects of aging too much yet, are are taking a preventative approach, you will probably select a different product from the person who has specific issues to address. Read labels and instructions to determine what products are supposed to do, and if you still unsure which is the best consumer anti aging face care product for you, consult a skin care professional for advice. Though this may cost a bit, it will probably save you money in the long term by narrowing your possible choices to a few quality products.

How to Avoid Mold and Foundation Cracks

The best way to deal with water buildup around your foundation or in your basement is to install a sump pump system in your home. A sump pump will literally "pump" the water out of your basement and away from your foundation. Water collects in its tank until the tank is filled and then it is pumped out of your basement.

Optimizing a Sump Pump's Efficiency

\"skin Irritation\"

In order to optimize the efficiency of your sump pump it is vital to install an interior drainage system. Interior drainage systems are installed along your basement walls, acting like a gutter system. They help to steer the water that leaks into your basement into the tank of the sump pump system, ensuring that there is virtually no water in your basement or around your foundation.

Mold Growth

It is extremely easy for mold to grow in the presence of water. Mold and mold spores can be very hazardous to your family's health. A person's reaction to the presence of mold varies from person to person, but common effects are an increase in the likelihood of becoming sick or getting a sinus infection. With this said, however, the effects are known to be more severe for people with weak immune systems such as infants and elderly people.

In some severe cases, black mold can develop in your home. Black mold, also referred to as "toxic mold", is the worst type of mold. It poses severe health threats to your family like shortness of breath, sore throat, respiratory problems, sinus congestion, watery eyes, skin irritation, chronic fatigue, and even central nervous system problems. As you can see, it is not worth putting your family at risk of all the health related issues associated with mold and mold spores.

Foundation Cracks

Continual water buildup around your foundation creates pressure that can lead to foundation cracks. When you have cracks in your foundation, it becomes significantly easier for water to enter your basement and other below-grade spaces. If you don't have a properly installed sump pump system than this water will sit in your basement, causing water damage to your belongings and promoting mold growth.

Letting water sit by your foundation can cause the soil around the foundation to become soft. When the soil becomes soft, the heavy weight of your house begins to push down, making it sink deeper into the ground. When it does sink, it often doesn't do so symmetrically which makes your foundation susceptible to cracking.

Not properly pumping water out of your basement causes your backfill to become saturated with water. When it does get saturated, it becomes heavier and therefore exerts a lot of pressure on the foundation sidewall. If enough pressure builds up on the sidewall it will begin to move inwards, making a split in the interior section of your foundation. As previously mentioned, a cracked foundation will enable water to enter your basement.

Recap

Mold removal and foundation cracks can be extremely costly to fix and damaging to both your family's health and your home's structure. Installing a sump pump system in your home may be costly upfront, but it could save you from spending thousands on mold removal and foundation repairs in the near future.

Beauty Myths, Part 3: More False Beliefs About Skin Care

Chemicals in Cosmetics can't absorb into the Body.

Our skin is the largest organ we have and often the most abused. We scrub the exposed skin, usually our face and neck, apply lotions, creams, pastes and ointments and then neglect the skin not seen by others.

\"dry Scalp\"

Many people think the skin makes us air and water tight and don't consider that what applied to the skin can, and is absorbed into the blood stream and then into the other organs. But that is how HRT and nicotine patches work. They deliver medication into the blood stream to remedy the ailment. A few years ago, experiments were started with dermal patches to deliver medication to the brain for people suffering dementia.

It is, therefore, reasonable to assume chemicals in cosmetics and skin care products do travel through the skin layers into the blood stream and are carried to the organs.

Scientists have documented an enormous amount of research results indicating the adverse effects of some chemicals that are included ingredients in cosmetics. Consumers are left in the dark about the results of such research unless a lobby group makes an effort to expose a potential problem with a particular chemical.

Phthalates are an example of toxins in skin care products that alter the hormones. Used as a fixer in synthetic fragrance and colour and a plasticizer in nail varnish. Phthalates are present in many consumer products and there is mounting evidence they have detrimental impact on the human body.

Scientific studies from researchers' worldwide find absorption of some chemicals impact adversely on animals of many species, from mammals, fish and amphibians.

That Fine, Flaky Scalp is 'Dandruff'

Like the skin, the scalp is shedding skin cells each day. Our hair makes it more difficult to remove the skin flakes from the scalp and, if left for a length of time, warmth and moisture from the head may cause bacteria to form a crust on the scalp that is known as dandruff.

The result is a yellowish, thick build up of scalp skin cells that take patience and several treatments to remove, sometimes loosening clumps of hair as well.

Fine, powdery flakes from the scalp are actually dry scalp, usually caused by an ingredient in shampoo, sodium lauryl sulphate. This chemical inflames the scalp skin cells causing them to lift and flake.

Clever marketing from shampoo companies promote dry scalp as dandruff, but they invariably contain the same foaming chemical that causes the problem. Shampoos with non-chemical based foaming agent are rare, but worth seeking as they are not as drying. Massage the scalp regularly to promote blood supply to the scalp and hair follicles as well as loosening the dead scalp skin.

'Natural' Skin Care products are Chemical-Free.

Worldwide, it is not illegal to advertise skin care products as 'natural' even if they contain chemicals. As an example, Manufacturers will claim that coconut oil, synthesized to produce the foaming agent Cocomide DEA is a natural ingredient. But once the chemical reaction has taken place on the coconut oil it is no longer natural or even safe as the manufacturing process may produce a contaminant called nitrosamines. This will not be listed on the label, as a contaminant it is not an intended ingredient. Nitrosamines have shown to cause cancer in all species of laboratory animal including the primates, the closest relative to the human race.

Inspect the ingredients label closely of most 'natural' skin care products and you are likely to find the botanicals, usually marketed as the benefits of the product, are in the middle, if not the end of the list.

When you understand that the first 3 to 4 ingredients listed make up 90% to 95% of the entire product, the 'natural botanical' ingredients are in such small a proportion they will be of little benefit to the user. Many products are mainly water and chemicals with a few herbals thrown in so they can be promoted as 'natural.'

Beauty Myths, Part 3: More False Beliefs About Skin Care

Karen Armitage has been in the beauty and hairdressing industry for almost 40 years. She was horrified to discover that 89% of ingredients used in cosmetics are not tested for safety by any independent governing body. For more information and free reports on what many be in your skin care products:

Anti Wrinkle Product - Revitol

Revitol comes in a three part anti-aging treatment that is targeted to both men and women who need to restore the hydration of their skin and look younger. The system contains an Anti Wrinkle Complex, Anti Wrinkle Treatment Serum, and Moisturizing Cream. Revitol promises to decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while re-hydrating dry skin, smoothing out skin's texture, increase smoothness, and lighten the dark circles under a person's eyes. It also claims to help new skin cells re-grow and encourages the elasticity of skin.

How Does Revitol Works?

\"dry Skin\"

As a micro emulsion formula, Revitol will reach beneath the surface of the skin and pump up the skin so that it will make skin look younger, smoother and firmer.

Active Ingredients:

  1. Argirelene (Acetyl Hexapeptide-3) is developed from amino acids that occur naturally. Argireline works by helping relax facial tension because it reduces the excessive release of the neurotransmitters that will make your facial muscles tense up. Argireline also works to promote collagen and elastin production that declines with age, and that allows skin to lose its shape.
  2. Matrixyl - reinforces the body's own natural curative process and reduces the appearance of wrinkles. It will increase skin smoothness and elasticity.
  3. Hyaluronic Acid - is found naturally in the connective tissues of the body and acts as a lubricant. This lubricating quality is important in several respects. It's absolutely necessary for proper functioning of the joints, valves and eyes, and for maintaining the shape of the skin. It maintains healthy collagen and keeps the skin moisturized.

Pros:

  1. Revitol is available online from the manufacturer.
  2. The peptides used in Revitol have all been thoroughly researched.
  3. All ingredients listed on the official website.
  4. It can clear darkening circles under the eyes.
  5. It helps stimulates renewal of skin cells.
  6. It will hydrate the skin and promote elasticity.

Cons:

  1. It does use parabens which are a group of cheap preservatives that can irritate the skin of some sensitive users.
  2. The full three-step daily regimen could be time-consuming and expensive.

Revitol does contain ingredients that have been verified to produce an anti-aging effect on the skin. Therefore, it is safe to assume that it works well.

The Best Face Moisturizer For Men - 5 Tips You MUST Know to Find the Best Men's Facial Moisturizer

Do you want to find the best face moisturizer for men, but have no idea where to start or what to look for? This article will provide you with some helpful tips that'll make your search much easier and successful.

TIP #1. You won't find the best face moisturizer for men at your local drug store or pharmacy.

Moisturizer

This is usually the first place people go and look for skin care products. But unfortunately, they may be the worst places to get them. Not only do these places severely limit your choices, they also choose to stock the ones that are the cheapest. And a general rule in skin care is: cheap products produce cheap results.

Instead, you will have much more success looking for the best face moisturizer for men on the Internet. Not only can you get products from the other side of the world (which are sometimes MUCH better than those made in your country), you can learn a lot more about a product before you decide to get it.

TIP #2. The best facial moisturizer for men will be made with all natural ingredients.

Most products that are made with synthetic ingredients are ineffective. Sure these products are cheap, but isn't it RESULTS that you want? In anything, most synthetic ingredients cause more harm to your skin than anything.

All-natural and organic ingredients provide the most benefits to your skin because they are very similar to your existing natural oils. On top of this, they are very safe and pose very little threat of negative reaction.

TIP #3. The best face moisturizer for men will contain ingredients that prevent inflammation and redness.

Men are particularly prone to redness and inflammation from shaving and from more exposure to the environment and the natural elements. Look for ingredients like witch hazel and CynergyTK™ in the best facial moisturizer for men. They both help stop inflammation and redness by stopping the production of PGE2, the major biochemical pathway leading to inflammation and redness.

TIP #4. The best facial moisturizer for men will contain ingredients that seal in moisture throughout the day.

After you properly hydrate your skin, it's important to make sure that this moisture stays in your skin throughout the day. An ingredient like grapeseed oil will create an invisible film over your skin to seal in this moisture, leaving it soft and smooth all day long.

TIP #5. The best face moisturizer for men is often an anti-aging product as well.

Since companies that make anti-aging products spend the most time developing their product and because of the fact that hydration is a key part to keeping skin youthful and healthy, anti-aging products tend to contain the best moisturizers and moisturizing ingredients. The Best Skin Moisturizer For Winter

Winter is the season when even those with oily skin experience dryness; hence, everyone is looking for the best skin moisturizer that will effectively prevent the dryness and the associated inflammation, flaking and dullness. This article is going to tell you some of the effective ingredients to look for when you go shopping.

The problem is that winter comes with dry wind which tends to absorb the moisture in your body, causing dryness; hence, the best skin moisturizer for winter should contain emollients that absorb moisture from the atmosphere as well as seal in the moisture in your body to prevent evaporation.

Ingredients that the best skin moisturizer for winter should contain

* Maracuja - This is an excellent natural emollient gotten from passion fruit; it regulates the production of oil in your body. Thus, it makes your body produce more oil when needed such as during winter and makes it produce less when not needed; this way, your skin will never be too dry or too greasy.

* Grapeseed oil - This essential moisturizing oil forms an invisible coating that helps to lock in moisture in your body, thereby making your skin soft, smooth and velvet-like. It also contains vitamin E and linoleic acid that are helpful in keeping your skin healthy; it is effective at skin repair, reduction of stretch marks and rejuvenation.

* Babassu - This is another vital emollient that the best skin moisturizer for winter should contain; it is proven to be effective at locking in moisture and keeping dirt and grime out of your body, thereby keeping your skin hydrated, supple and healthy. It contains soothing properties that are helpful for conditions such as eczema, itching and inflammation; it is proven to be good for both dry and oily skin-types because it is very light and does not clog the pores.

Other vital emollients to look for when shopping for the best skin moisturizer for winter include Crodamol OP, Avocado oil and Macadamia oil. All these are natural ingredients that are not harmful to your body.

You should avoid any product that contains mineral oil; although mineral oil is widely used as a moisturizing agent, it is a harsh petrochemical that causes dryness in the long run. Other harmful ingredients that you should avoid include fragrances, parabens and alcohols (ethyl, methyl, methanol, benzyl, isopropyl and SD alcohol).

Everyday Uses For Clove Oil-Outside Of Your Kitchen

Experience, Clove Oil for Pain-Killing, Antiseptic Purposes and Antiparasitic.

Clove oil is a powerful therapeutic-grade essential oil long known for its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antifungal properties. Clove Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oil is the highest - scoring single ingredient ever tested for its antioxidant capacity on the ORAC scale. It is also stimulating and revitalizing and is great for dietary, topical or aromatic use.

\"skin Irritation\"

Whole cloves are of course an important cooking spice, and clove oil can be used to prevent food poisoning, as it is able to kill some food-borne bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus.

Taken internally, therapeutic-grade essential clove oil is helpful for treating the gas discomfort that often comes with peptic ulcers. This effect has to do with the numbing of pain rather than the actual reduction of gas.

Clove oil is also good for numbing the pain of a toothache and can be used in place of conventional numbing agents before dental work. The chief component of clove oil is eugenol, and it has been shown to be as effective as the commonly used benzocaine in numbing the gums.

Using clove oil topically spreads warmth and numbs pain. It can be irritating to the skin, so it is a good idea to dilute your therapeutic-grade essential oil with a vegetable oil such as olive oil if you find that you are sensitive to the oil on your skin.

Germany's Commission E has approved the use of clove oil as a topical antiseptic and anesthetic. It's great to keep on hand for cleaning and numbing small cuts and scrapes and eliminating the pain of toothaches.

Clove oil is also a powerful antioxidant and has immune system enhancing properties. This therapeutic-grade essential oil has tested the highest of any ingredient when it comes to its antioxidant capacity.

The best clove oil comes from the flower buds of the clove shrub, which is an evergreen native to Indonesia. Some companies make clove oil out of the leaves and stems of the clove plant, which does not make as high quality a product.

Clove oil should not be given to infants or children younger than six because of the possibility of stomach upset. When taken internally, it should be diluted, with one drop of therapeutic-grade essential oil added to four ounces of vegetable oil before adding it to a capsule. The same dilution should be used when applying clove oil to the skin.

Women who are pregnant should consult with a doctor before using clove oil. For others, clove oil is classified as a "hot oil", particularly in its undiluted form. People with kidney or liver problems, or who have bleeding disorders or take blood thinners, should not use clove oil.

Clove oil is an incredibly useful therapeutic-grade essential oil that is great for stimulating the immune system, easing pain and inflammation and numbing the mouth, meaning you'll find even more uses for clove outside of the kitchen than you do inside.

Always wash your hands thoroughly before and after the use of therapeutic-grade essential oils. Also avoid contact with your eyes.
